Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visits Capitol Hill after meeting with President Trump

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu headed to Capitol Hill on Tuesday after meeting with President Trump on Monday at the White House. Netanyahu met with U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) as well as with a bipartisan group of senators, according to reports. On Monday, Trump told reporters that the U.S. is planning additional talks with Iran and that sanctions could be lifted at some point. Earlier, Trump stated that he believes a ceasefire deal with Hamas could be reached this week. The White House announced that Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff will travel to Doha this week for talks. The U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal includes a plan for a phased release of hostages, an increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza, Israeli troop withdrawals, and discussions on ending the nearly two-year war.
