Trump’s constructive wake-up call

In this last part of his interview with Jacob Heilbrunn, Daniel Runde, Senior Advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, reflects on Donald Trump’s foreign policy actions.
He argues that Trump shifted the debate on China, pushed Europeans to take more responsibility for their own defense, armed Ukraine decisively, and dared to engage with adversaries such as Russia and North Korea.
For Runde, Trump’s disruptive style was not a weakness but a “constructive wake-up call” for the international system.
