Michael Gfoeller: A Post-Islamist Republic Iran Is Emerging on the Horizon
Ambassador Michael Gfoeller, Founder of The Gfoeller Renaissance Foundation, explains in this first part of his conversation with Jacob Heilbrunn that Iran may be entering a phase of historic transformation.
According to the former American diplomat, the Iranian regime may already have lost much of its ideological foundation, while a profound popular dynamic is underway. The real “boots on the ground,” he says, appeared in January when millions of Iranians took to the streets calling for a republic without an Islamic dimension.
For Gfoeller, this evolution could pave the way for a post-Islamist Republic Iran, long hoped for by the country’s younger generation.
