When Peace Required Courage

President Ronald Reagan’s words after the assassination of Anwar Sadat were more than a tribute. They were a warning.

Sadat understood that peace requires courage — and that those who fear peace will often try to destroy the men who dare to pursue it.

But history has a way of proving the opposite: the martyrdom of a peacemaker can make his message even stronger.

Today, as the region again faces hatred, violence, and those who prefer permanent conflict, Sadat’s legacy reminds us that true leadership is not measured by fear — but by the courage to build peace when peace is dangerous.
